Difference What are they?
Information technology refer to the application of technology to solve
business processes.
Computer science refer
to the processes used to create computer programs and application along with
the theory behind them.
Difference Learning opportunity
Information technology
offers you an opportunity to discovers innovative uses of those fundamental
concepts.
Computer science offers you an opportunity to learn variety of
topics related to computers.
Difference Focus on
Information technology focuses more on application
Computer science takes a more balance approach between theory
and application.
Difference Perquisite
Computer science generally require a decent background in match
while use of math in information
technology. Is limited to date analysis / processing / statistics,
etc.
Difference Origin
You may call information technology. As one of
the sub-division of computer science.
However, there are certain things that are unique to information technology administration, maintenance, etc.
Similarity Hardware?
None of them
involves hardware. You may
have to take one or two courses on digital system where you will study about ICs and logic gates. That’s it.
You won’t learn how to repair computer in any of them.
Similarity Programming?
Most of the
courses offered I both the branches
are related to programming. You
will have to programming on a regular
basis in both the branches.
Miscellaneous Ground reality
Student joining
tend to believe that information
technology is inferior to computer
science may be it was. But now and your potential. Not your branch.

Companies do not differentiate
between information technology
/ computers science since
2013, there has been no company that was only open for computer science and not for information technology. A few companies (none of them are
tier-A) do have different GPA cut-offs for CS and information technology branches.
