Bad web developers Part-II #23

Be unwilling to learn new things

Learning new skill and keeping up to date on trends is hugely important in technology.

I had a co-worker once (years ago) who was very resistant to learning new things and working outside his comfort zone.

Unfortunately, he didn’t last very long at the job.

Miss Deadline

Making deadline is a part of life when you’re working as a developer. There’s always a launch date and we have to keep our promises to the clients.

If you miss a deadline. You’re putting yourself your teams, and your company in a bad position to your client.

Don’t communicate

When you’re working on a team, good communication is essential!

If the work is taking longer than you thought, or you notice a red flag in a project scope, you have to say something. Don’t just be quiet and silently hope things will magically get better.

They won’t.

Refuse to compromise

As developers, there’s always a tension between our own desires and the needs of the client.

You might be asked to build something that you think is completely stupid. Or have to use a technology or tools that you don’t like.

If you can’t compromise for the greater good of the project, everyone for the greater good of the project, everyone will be unhappy, and people won’t want to work with you.

Be defensive

Getting feedback and constructive criticism is never fun. But is, none of us is perfect.

If you can’t accept feedback, you won’t be able to grow as a developers or even as a person.

Be an a$$hole

There are many to be one. Here are a few:

Have no empathy for others

Be an elitist and look down on xyz technologies or languages.

Be self-centred, and willing to push others down in order for yourself to look better. Down in order for yourself to look better.

In Closing…

You may have noticed that most of these traits re not related to coding at all!

The fact, if you don’t have certain technical skill you can always learn.

But interpersonal skill and emotional intelligence are much harder to develop, if you don’t have theme what do you think? Is there anything that I’ve missed in this list of how to be a Bad developer? Leave a comment Below
