I Wish i knew when i starts freelancing #36
Your network is
Your
net worth
If
you have ever tired freelancing websites. You know that the competition is
extremely high. You have to be either well-known in the platform or lower your
price (which I Don’t recommended).
2.
50% Technical
50%
Marketing
Skills
I’ve
done project in web development, mobile development, design and believe it or
not even photography one time!
Is it because I’m an expert in all these filed? Of course not!
I Just practice don how to present myself so that I have a higher chance of winning the project.
3.
Don’t ACT desperate
One
of the worst mistakes I made in my early freelancing. Was acting desperate for
winning the project without even realizing it!
When negotiating with the
client, never act desperate.
Know
your worth and be confident.
4.
Don’t break the price, increase the
value
Don’t
lower your price to beat competition, offer more value instead.
This
way not only you have a chance of making more money but also you would look
more professional and have a higher chance of winning the project.
5.
Contract is essential
No
matter who you are working with a friend, family member or a stranger contract
is a must.
Not
just as a way to enforce the payment but because to clear out the terms and
avoid future arguments.
6.
Don’t do free work just because you don’t have any experience! That make you work look cheap and they won’t respect you as a professional.
Work
on your own project if you don’t have anything on your portfolio.
BTW
don’t fall for “do this one for free, I have more projects for you”!!:)
7.
Set Limits
Freelancing
lifestyle can be different from an office job. You might have four projects for
two months.
Just
because there are more projects coming in your way, doesn’t mean you have to
take them all!
Set
limits on how many hours you work each day.
8.
Financial management
Financial
management is circular in freelancing. Just because you made 10K in one month
doesn’t mean you will in the next month.
Don’t
spend too much and always have an emergency saving in case you don’t have any
project.
